Introduction:
Designed to enhance VFR Generation X, VFR London is a highly detailed 3D model of the city of London. Having been built using an aerial photographic template, it is such an accurate and faithful representation that it is already being used by $multi-billion defence contractors for counter-terrorism and contingency planning for the London 2012 Olympics. If you want to bring that extra level of realism to your simulation experience, VFR London should, without doubt, be top of your list of FSX add-ons.

"Users of Horizon's 'Generation X' VFR packages for Great Britain will enjoy a seamless transition to London's suburbs and beyond."
[PC Pilot, Classic Award 95%, - Issue 57, Nov. '08]

About FSX London:
Following events like the Great Fire and the Blitz, London is now characterised by a rich diversity of architecture, filled to bursting point with history – the makings of possibly the most spectacular of subjects for a 3D cityscape.
[VFR London - Image 3] [VFR London - Image 4]
Sitting on a new, ultra-high-resolution (60cm) layer of aerial photographic scenery, VFR London is comprised of over 30,000 building objects and 50,000 ‘fill objects’ (trees, cranes, boats etc) - including everything from monumental landmarks and skyscrapers to individual homes. Covering over 120km2, every object greater than 27m3 has been modelled to within 3m of its actual footprint, and individually hand textured to accurately reflect the real building by day, and by night.
Of course, one of the key questions for every simulation enthusiast will be: ‘Will it run on my PC?’ As such, one of the key considerations in the development of this enhancement has been performance optimisation, and there’s a lot of it in VFR London. To reduce the performance ‘hit’, we’ve set levels of detail that you can adjust according to your system’s specifications from within FSX. We’ve deliberately kept the polygon count of every object as low as possible (whilst still retaining the accuracy) and kept texture sizes minimal. We’ve also grouped buildings together to reduce the overall number of objects, and reused textures where possible.

Features:
VFR London has been reduced to c. 1GB of data and includes some incredible features:
120 km2 of 3D cityscape
30,000 building objects
50,000 fill objects (vegetation, cranes, boats etc…)
Day & night textures
Reflections on buildings where appropriate (e.g. glass etc…)
Realistic water colour and surface animation
New ultra-high resolution (60cm) photographic scenery layer
Also includes a new London City Airport (EGLC) specially designed for Microsoft FSX!

Please Note:
* Minimum System Specifications refers to those specifications required to display the photographic scenery at its most basic level of detail. Users with systems at or around this specification will need to pay special attention to the User Manual in order to tune system settings to optimise performance. Limitations on flying altitude, speed, and visibility may be required to maintain frame rates.
** Recommended System Specifications refers to those specifications required to display the photographic scenery at its most detailed. Whilst less tuning will be required than for a system at or near the Minimum Specifications, users will still need to pay attention to recommendations in the User Manual in order to achieve optimal performance.

This product was developed in association with Carl Edwards.
Carl Edwards acted as Lead Artist and has been in the graphics industry for some 14 years. He has worked on BAFTA winning simulation, and with such companies as Atari, Microprose, Acclaim and Empire Interactive. He was chosen for this project due to his experience in making large scale and highly detailed digital simulation environments that are optimised for applications requiring high speed and accurate visuals.
Joining Carl for the build were two up and coming stars of the flight simulation scene:
Marcus Lefevre has been doing simulator graphics for 4 years and has produced some of the most realistic sceneries yet seen in any game environment. His dedication to the art and drive to get the job done ensured that the project progressed smoothly throughout it's near 2 year build time. His attention to detail is second to none.
Paul Smith has been producing add-on scenery for Flight Simulator for several years, and prooved (with his highly detailed castles (among other) models) that he was the ideal choice as an additional team member to assist with modelling such a diverse city as London.
